Recently, there is a disease called Swine Flu (Swine Influenza) which you guys might be worrying about. Currently, it is affecting the United States of America, Mexico, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Israel and Spain.

So, what is swine flu actually?

It is a respiratory disease affecting pigs that is caused by type A influenza virus. It will cause high levels of illness but low death rates in pigs.

Does swine flu affect human beings?

Swine flu will mainly spread to humans through contact with infected pigs, which shed the virus in their saliva, nasal secretions and faeces. Limited human-to-human transmission can also take place in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in humans.

Will humans get infected with the disease after eating pork?

So far, there is no evidence to confirm that the disease can be transmitted to humans after eating pork or any pork product which have been well-cooked.

What are the symptoms of swine flu in human beings?

Actually, the symptoms are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza. An early stage is high fever, and it is followed by cough, sore throat, runny nose, and even breathlessness a few days later.
